Betta Fish Care

This kind of a fighting fish is a fantastic type of a fish. It is common and comes in different types of colors and does not demand a lot of attention even specialized. Quite a number of people like Siamese Betta fish, some of them like staring at it for sometime only to end up leaving for home with it from the pet store.

Evolution has done much since this type of fish some time back had a type of a tail known as the veil tail. It was a kind of a fan shaped caudal fin which made such a fish noticeable. Due to evolution, quite a number of species have cropped up mostly bearing different tail shapes.

Siamese Betta fish originated from Mekong Basin South East Asia and have a very strong eye-sight. After seeing that your hand is aiming at it, probably your motive is feeding it, it swims quick to the surface. The name Betta may vary from continent to another like it is in Greek where it is pronounced as “beta” leading to improper spelling in America as “betta”. Since they are a very common aquarium fish, they are not very simple to keep. The Siamese Betta fish has a lifespan of four years and it is 6cm long. If proper care is administered as a specimen it can live for more than six years.

The Asian countries use this type of fish for entertainment basically fighting. The fighting Betta fish has shorter fins than those ones that are common in the West, all along quite a number of breeds have developed with longer finned varieties and different colors. Sometimes they puff out for defense or even for attracting the female for courtship. This is entertaining since it covers the gills.

The male Siamese Betta fish makes bubble nests from air and coats them with saliva to strengthen them. These are made for breeding and are guarded by the male until the small fish hatch. The male Betta takes care of the nest for 24-48 hours by adding saliva to strengthen them until they hatch.
